But while they went in the direction of Victor Lindelof instead, the Red Devils will certainly hope that the Burnley defender moves elsewhere for the fee that’s currently being quoted.
Several outlets have suggested that 24-year-old will sign for Everton in the coming days for a fee believed to be in the region of £25 million.
If that deal goes ahead, as it almost certainly will, then United stand to see a healthy injection of cash to their bank as, according to the Burnley Express, they are entitled to 25 per cent of the player’s transfer fee, having included a sell-on clause in the centre-half’s contract when he left Old Trafford in 2015.

If and when Keane does become Ronald Koeman’s next signing and the fee is indeed £25 million, that means United will earn a cool £6.25 million.
Most bookmakers have suspended betting on Keane’s next club, so certain are they that it will be the Toffees.
Keane was called into the England squad for the first time last October and made his senior international debut earlier this year in a friendly defeat to Germany.
