Manchester United would be banging in them with Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero, insists Louis van Gaal

Well, duh

Manchester United’s incredible run of fecklessness in front of goal is nothing to do with Louis van Gaal.

Well, that’s what the club’s Dutch manager would have you believe, anyway.

United have found the net just six times in their last nine games, and Van Gaal has pointed the finger directly at his misfiring forwards, claiming a striker like Sergio Aguero or Luis Suarez would be banging in the goals at Old Trafford.

Following yet another scoreless draw against West Ham, yesterday, Van Gaal told BBC Radio Manchester: “The question is would Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero score if they were here?

“That is a question mark. You never know. I think they would, though. We’ve created enough chances to score, so that was not the problem.”

Aside from the fact that two of the five or six best strikers in the world would probably be able have more than Juan Mata’s team-leading four goals no matter what side they played in, the remarks do little to suggest Van Gaal has much confidence in his current crop of attackers, led by England skipper Wayne Rooney, record teenage signing Anthony Martial and fellow summer arrival Memphis Depay.
