Marcus Rashford has apologised for his red card against Burnley.

Rashford lasted just 10 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute for Alexis Sanchez in Manchester United’s 2-0 victory on Sunday.

The young forward received a straight red card after reacting to a Phil Bardsley tackle by going head-to-head with the former United full-back.

The behaviour was deemed violent conduct by referee Jon Moss and Rashford was soon on his way down the Turf Moor tunnel.

The 20-year-old has since apologised for his fiery reaction which saw players from both teams forced to get in between Rashford and Bardsley.

“Emotions got the better of me,” Rashford explained on Instagram. “I shouldn’t have reacted like that.

“Sorry to everyone at the club and all the fans.”

Fortunately for Rashford, the result was already in the bag for the Red Devils when he was given his marching orders.

A first-half brace from Romelu Lukaku gave United a much-needed win but Rashford’s red card left something of a sour taste in the mouth of manager Jose Mourinho, who branded the youngster “naive.”

“I don’t know what happened. I would say it was naive,” Mourinho said after the game.

“It was a kid and a very experienced man. Bardsley’s been in the game for 20 years and Marcus is a naive boy.”
