Marcus Rashford sends message to Harvey Elliott after he is stretchered off

Marcus Rashford was quick to wish Harvey Elliott a speedy recovery after the Liverpool youngster was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious injury against Leeds on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp was preparing to substitute the 18-year-old after his side had taken a two-goal lead early in the second half at Elland Road.

However, after an unfortunate tangle with Pascal Struijk on the halfway line, Elliott stayed down. Mo Salah, who was close by at the time, immediately waved the medical team onto the field as the severity of the injury became instantly clear.

The injury appeared to be more unfortunate than the result of anything malicious, but Struijk was later shown a red card after a VAR review as Elliott was treated on the pitch.

The midfielder was seen taking oxygen as he was taken away, but did manage to offer a brief applause as he departed.

Rashford quickly followed up by sending a supportive tweet to Elliott.

‘Ahhhh man rivalry aside that looks really nasty, no one wants to see that, thoughts are with you Harvey,’ the Manchester United forward’s tweet read.

Liverpool ended up winning the game 3-0, with goals from Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane capping an impressive showing. The performance was, however, overshadowed by Elliott’s injury.
