United have released a statement as Rashford undergoes surgery
Marcus Rashford is set for a spell on the sidelines after Manchester United confirmed he will undergo imminent surgery on a long-standing shoulder injury.
Rashford was able to play through the pain barrier with the shoulder problem during last season before joining up with England for Euro 2020.
It was widely expected that the 23-year-old would require an operation, with Rashford said to be looking into a number of options to rectify the problem.
A statement from United has now confirmed that after discussions between the player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club’s medical department, surgery would take place ‘imminently’.
He will miss the start of United’s season, with no word yet on how long he is expected to be out of action for.
“Following consultation between Marcus, the manager, club medical staff and specialists, Marcus will undergo surgery imminently to resolve his shoulder injury,” the statement said.
“He will now focus on his rehabilitation in order to return as soon as possible”.
