Marcus Rashford will surely look for a raise on his minuscule wages as his contract nears its end

He's on peanuts (for a footballer)

We’d love to be Marcus Rashford’s agent right about now.

The Manchester United striker was a virtual unknown to most football fans at the start of 2016. But just three-and-a-half months into the year, Rashford is suddenly the hottest prospect in the Premier League.

Having shown what he can do against Arsenal and Manchester City, the 18-year-old has had United legends from Alex Ferguson to Paul Scholes falling over themselves to sing his praises.

But despite being one of United’s top performers in recent months, Rashford is still earning far less than his team-mates as he plays out his first professional contract.

With just 14 months remaining on his current deal, according to The Independent, the teenager is on just £1,500 per week. That shouldn’t last for much longer though, as United will surely aim to tie him down to a long-term deal.

But to put Rashford’s earnings into context, Wayne Rooney’s reported £260,000-a-week wages would mean he earns £1,550 per hour.

If you’ll excuse us, we need to go lie down after figuring that one out.
