Mason Greenwood’s accuser has broken her silence to thank people for their support after the Manchester United footballer was released on bail.
The young woman stated that the past week had been ‘difficult’ and that she would not be making any further statements pending the police inquiries.
Police were made aware of allegations against the forward on Sunday, after photos and audio detailing claims of abuse surfaced online.
Her statement reads: “I’m grateful to everyone that has sent messages of support and encouragement – thank you. The last few days have been very difficult and I’m taking a break from social media while the police make their investigations.”
Greenwood, 20, has since been banned from training, or playing, by United as police continue to investigate the claims.
He was released on bail on Wednesday ‘pending further investigation’ after being arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and threats to kill.
United confirmed that supporters will be able to exchange their shirts with Greenwood’s name printed on the back for free, with the club also removing all merchandise related to the forward from their website on Monday
Nike have suspended their sponsorship deal with Greenwood, while United’s shirt sponsors TeamViewer said they are ‘closely monitoring developments’.
Additionally, the Red Devils’ official partner, Cadbury, will not feature him on their marketing products.
The player’s name has also been entirely removed from the list of players on the club’s online store and he has also disappeared from the FIFA 22 in recent days.
