Somebody was clearly surprised by Mason Greenwood’s inclusion
On Wednesday Mason Greenwood became Manchester United’s youngest ever Champions League player.
The youngster has been a revelation in the club’s youth teams and as such it wasn’t too much of a surprise to see him included in the squad for the Champions League second round second leg with PSG, especially given the team’s injury problems going into the game.
It appears however that Greenwood’s inclusion did surprise someone at the club, because the numbering used for his jersey was not the club’s official Champions League numbering, but in fact the official PSG numbering.

Now we obviously don’t know exactly what happened here, but judging by the photographs of Greenwood and his teammates celebrating their shock victory, it went a little something like this.
Greenwood was included in the squad. His club suit was prepped and ironed. His kit the same. It was packed into the club’s kit bags and readied for use. Then, when unpacking them at the Parc des Princes, someone saw Greenwood’s had nothing on it and thought “crap”.
At that point they freaked out a bit and quickly found the PSG printers, who presumably begrudgingly agreed to print the name.
Thankfully it didn’t affect things. Greenwood came on and helped add a bit of intensity and pace to United as they grabbed a surprise victory late on.
If nothing else, it’s just nice to see such a silly and hilarious thing happen in elite level football. Long may it continue.
