HE’S MAGIC YOU KNOW, MAURICIO POCHETTINO

Mauricio Pochettino could not hold back the tears during his post-match interview after Tottenham’s spectacular comeback against Ajax.

Spurs looked dead and buried at half-time, trailing by two goals on the night and three on aggregate, it seemed beyond the realms of possibility that they would repeat Liverpool’s heroics of Tuesday night. But evidently, we never learn.

A rousing team talk from Pochettino at half-time as well as inspiring substitutions – none more so than hat-trick hero Lucas Moura coming on for Victor Wanyama – saw Spurs claw back into the tie and eventually win on away goals in the most dramatic of circumstances. It was the best Champions League final since… Tuesday.

Pochettino is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve. His emotion and pride is infectious and has instilled a never say die attitude in his players, which paid off tonight as they kept hammering away at Ajax, refusing to lie down. The Argentine coach was beaming with pride in his post-match interview, heaping praise on his ‘heroes’, eventually crying with joy.

“Thank you football. This type of emotion without football is impossible to live, to feel. I’m so grateful to be a coach, to work and experience this moment,” Pochettino said.

Now someone, please get this man a drink. He’s earned it.
