Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is set to leave the club after one season to become the new Juventus manager, according to reports in Italy.
After a testing first year at Stamford Bridge, in which fans have not been enamoured with his preferred style of play, Sarri and Chelsea look set to part company despite him reaching the Europa League final and finishing 3rd in the Premier League.
The vacancy at Juventus appeared when the club agreed with Max Allegri that now was the right time to bring his illustrious time at the club to an end. In five years at the club, he won five consecutive league titles and reached the Champions League final twice.
Sarri came closest to stopping Juve from winning the Scudetto during the Allegri era, finishing second with Napoli last season after a drop in form at the end of the season. But now he will have the opportunity to win the Serie A title with the Bianconeri, if reports are true.
If can’t beat them, join them.
His appointment at Juventus would not be well received in his native Napoli, where Juve are considered the great evil in Italian football.
But the tantalising prospect of winning silverware relatively easily appears to have done enough to convince Sarri to join the club anyway.
That fixture will be fun next season.
