“The world Messi, no Lionel”
Memphis Depay had hinted at doing something a bit different to mark him reaching the 5 million followers mark on Instagram. Sure enough, he’s delivered.
Reaching the milestone without the help of a single raw chicken, the former Manchester United forward is clearly pretty chuffed with himself – so much so that he’s released the following freestyle rap to thank each and every one of his followers for the love they’ve shown. How very thoughtful.
Depay reminds everyone that he “stays humble” in his video, which is shot exclusively on a Parisian balcony and also shows him dancing a bit and smoking a large cigar.

Since leaving Old Trafford for Lyon nearly a couple of years ago, Depay has steadily shown signs that he’s getting his career back on track – scoring seven times in his last 11 appearances for club and country. His last goal came courtesy of an audacious penalty which helped his country beat world champions France. The Netherlands went on to clinch their spot in next summer’s Nations League finals in their next outing against Germany, a late equaliser sealing their passage to Portugal.
His freestyle efforts come only a matter of days after Romelu Lukaku seemingly attempted to launch his own rap career – with United teammate Jesse Lingard swiftly posting a piss-takey parody of the Belgian striker.
