Mesut Ozil wades in on Toni Kroos’ bizarre spat with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

This one is going to run and run

If we’re being honest, we’ve seen more than enough of people on Twitter arguing about whether it is right or wrong to wear masks for one year. We really, really didn’t need this.

Nevertheless, the bizarre spat between Real Madrid midfielder and Robbie Williams Ultra Toni Kroos and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shows no signs of slowing. And even Mesut Ozil is sticking his oar in now.

Kroos had taken a swipe at players who go to great lengths when celebrating goals, particularly those who put on masks – name-checking Aubameyang as one of those responsible.

“I find it very silly,”had said on his Einfach mal Luppen podcast. “Even worse is if there are any objects hidden in their socks. Aubameyang once celebrated and took out a mask. That’s where it ends with me.

“I don’t think that’s a good role model, either. What nonsense.”
The Arsenal forward had been quick to defend himself when Kroos’ comments reached him. ‘Does Toni Kroos have kids? Just to remember I did [dress up] for my son few times and will do it again.’
He followed up soon after with a picture of himself back in his Borussia Dortmund days, showing himself and Marco Reus wearing Batman and Robin masks after one of his goals.
With things seemingly settling down, Ozil has now tweeted his support for Aubameyang.
‘The best goal celebration,’ the outcast Arsenal playmaker tweeted, accompanied by a GIF of Aubameyang wearing a Black Panther mask to mark one of his goals.

We eagerly anticipate Robbie Williams (and probably Jonathan Wilkes) piling in to back Kroos up.
