Micah Richards and Gary Neville were involved in a heated debate about Manchester United’s appointment of interim boss Ralf Rangnick following Manchester City’s 4-1 derby win.
City secured the victory against rivals United in the derby on Sunday, thanks to goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez.
The Red Devils’ interim manager Rangnick opted for a forward pairing of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, despite having Marcus Rashford on the bench.
Speaking after the game, Richards questioned why United appointed an interim manager in the first place, saying: “So why did they give him [Ralf Rangnick] the job in the first place? We’re talking about the here and now, so are United just getting rid of this season then? Is that’s what your doing?
Neville fired back: “You’re ranting emotionally without actually without making any sense, Chelsea have appointed interim managers until the end of the season just to get them to the end of the season and when the manager they want become available.”
The former City full-back replied: “Just because you’re connected to Man United doesn’t mean by opinion is irrelevant. Rangnick’s best work is done behind the scenes. You brought him in as the interim, and he’s not done great.”
"Do they want to be mediocre for the next 10 years, is that what they want?!"

Neville then told Richards to stop ranting and asked ‘what United should have done’, to which Richards said: “Gone for [Antonio] Conte, he was available before he went to Spurs. He was the best available manager at the time. He doesn’t fit the Man United way? The Man United way, you don’t win any trophies anymore. Conte is a winner.
The ex-Man United right back then stated that the Red Devils ‘didn’t want Conte’, which led to Richards saying: “Why would you not want Conte? You don’t want winners anymore? Is that where Man United are? You don’t want winners anymore?”
Neville replied: “Conte is not a manager for Manchester United, he comes in for one or two years, he does a great job, but they’ve been there with Jose Mourinho.
He added: “They want to appoint either Erik ten Hag or Mauricio Pochettino and they needed someone until the end of the season.”
