Michael Conlan’s long awaited dream of taking part in his first professional fight is just a few hours away.
The Belfast man is set to face off against Colorado native, Tim Ibarra (4-4-0), at New York’s Madison Square Garden, on St. Patrick’s night.
Conlan is the heavy favourite going into this fight but he is well able to handle the expectation after a distinguished amateur career.
The hype surrounding the fight has been huge, with many expecting Conlan to make significant ground in the professional ranks.
The clamour surrounding his debut is so high that Irish broadcaster RTÉ has decided to air delayed coverage of the fight, the first time they have covered professional boxing since 2011.
The 25-year-old has just weighed in at 122.8 lbs and it’s safe to say that he is looking in stupidly good shape.
We’re no experts on boxers’ fitness but Conlan looks a lot more formidable than his opponent.
There will be 5,000 at the fight at MSGÂ and with a huge Irish backing expected, Conlan will be safe in the knowledge that he has fans cheering him on at both home and abroad.
