“Do you think it’s worse than racism?”
West Ham star Michail Antonio has spoken out on the video of his teammate Kurt Zouma mistreating his cat.
The video led to Zouma’s pet cats being taken away by the RSPCA, after sponsors dropped like flies and the player was fined the maximum amount by his employers, West Ham United.
The Frenchman was included in West Ham’s starting XI for their game against Watford on Tuesday night, a decision manager David Moyes attempted to justify by claiming it was down to ‘footballing reasons’.
And for the first time since the story broke, a West Ham teammate has spoken out on the matter.
Upon arrival at West Ham’s training ground, Irons forward Michail Antonio said: “I’ve got a question for you.
“So, do you think what he’s done is worse than racism?
“I’m not condoning the thing that he’s done. I don’t agree with what he’s done, at all.
“But, there’s people convicted… Been caught for racism, and have played football afterwards. They got punished, they got an eight game punishment or something like that.
“People are now calling for people to be sacked, to lose their livelihood. I’ve just got to ask this question to everyone out there.
“Is what he’s done worse than what people have done who are convicted of racism?”
