Uefa President Michel Platini has officially announced he will run for the position of president of Fifa once Sepp Blatter steps down.
It’s not exactly a shock for world football, as Platini has been mooted at a potential successor to Blatter for quite some time. In fact, many were surprised when he didn’t run for the position at this summer’s election.

Fifa has been shaken by a series of arrests relating to corruption allegations recently, forcing Blatter to resign in an attempt to save some credibility.
Of course, there are many doubts about Platini’s willingness to clean up Fifa, with critics of the Frenchman pointing out the fact he voted in favour of Qatar as a World Cup host and said he would do it again.
Platini has been the president of Uefa since 2007, during which time he has faced allegations of unethical behaviour himself – such as apparently paying off the FA of Ireland following their infamous loss at the hands of Thierry Henry and France in a 2010 World Cup play-off.
