England are out of the Euros. You might’ve heard.

Not long after bravely falling to a 2-1 defeat to the footballing superpower of Iceland, Roy Hodgson decided to fall on his sword, announcing his resignation in a post-match press conference.

Minutes later, thoughts were already turning towards who might replace Hodgson as England’s next manager. Initially, a surprise name topped the list.

Yes, Gareth Southgate. A man best known for a missed penalty and the Pizza Hut advert that followed it.

But that’s not to say that Southgate hasn’t had a go at the whole management things. Currently the England U21 boss, he was also at the helm at Middlesbrough between 2006 and 2009 – eventually guiding them to a 19th place finish and relegation to the Championship in his final season.

It was up on Teeside that Southgate crossed paths with Egyptian striker Mido. Signed from Tottenham in 2007, Mido eventually left the club three years later.

Having dabbled in the football management world himself in the last few years, Mido offered up his opinion to the news that his former boss was being linked with the England job. And it wasn’t all that complimentary.

Not only does he take a pop at Southgate, he also has the sheer audacity to @ him in on it too.
