Mohamed Salah has claimed that there’s absolutely no truth to the rumours that there is an issue between he and Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.
While neither man has ever given an indication that they don’t get along, Arsenal legend Ian Wright suggested that Mane had become jealous of Salah and the impact that the Egyptian international has had since joining Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Earlier this week, Wright claimed that Mane appeared annoyed that the Reds had a new fan favourite in town after Salah took to life at Anfield like a duck to water, scoring 20 goals since in all competitions since moving from Roma in the summer.
“Do you think there is a bit of jealousy there? With Mo Salah?” Wright asked on BBC 5 Live.
“He just looks a little bit perturbed by it.
“Mo Salah has come in and – remember when Mane went to the Africa Cup of Nations and everyone was like ‘oh it’s over now, we can’t replace Mane’?
“And now they’ve got Salah and he’s been on the bench.”
With both Salah and Mane up for the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year award, meaning they will be at a ceremony in Ghana just 24 hours prior to Liverpool’s FA Cup third round clash with Merseyside rivals Everton at the beginning of next month, Liverpool’s top scorer has insisted that there’s no problem with his teammate.
In fact, Salah insists that Mane might just be his closest friend at Liverpool.
“We are friends,” he told Sky Sports. “We are very close to each other. Maybe he is my closest friend here in the team.
“We are friends, we like each other, he’s a great guy and a fantastic player who is very fast with quality and confidence.
“I am very happy to share everything in Africa with him, so I’m very happy also for him.”
