There is a war going on at Old Trafford
José Mourinho has told Paul Pogba that he will never captain Manchester United again, according to reports. The relationship between the pair has been shaky at the best of times, but recent comments from Pogba that called for United to play more attacking football appear to have angered the manager.
Mourinho has stamped down his authority by informing Pogba that he will never wear the armband for United under his reign. The Frenchman has captained the side on three occasions this season in the absence of Antonio Valencia, who was made de facto club captain after Michael Carrick retired.
Mourinho informed the squad of the news at Carrington on Tuesday, three days after United’s disappointing draw with Wolves, after which Pogba criticised Mourinho’s tactics.
It’s not the first time Pogba’s comments have riled Mourinho this season. After United’s opening day victory over Leicester City, Pogba claimed he would be fined if he said what he wanted to say about his situation at United.
On Monday, Pogba tweeted, suggesting that his comments had been made out to mean more than they did, but reading through the lines it is clear to see the friction between him and his coach.
It seems that eventually, somebody will have to blink and leave the club. In all likelihood, there will only be one winner.
