Breaking up is never easy.
Sometimes a relationship just comes to a natural conclusion, but other times on partner just removes themselves completely without warning after a wealthier, more respected suitor comes along and offers them £130,00-a-week. Sure you might say that you’ll keep in touch but you know you won’t. It’s a tale as old as time.
There’s not much scope for remaining friends when it comes to football transfers, especially when you leave for the only team to have finished above you last season.
Such is the situation that Argentinian forward Gonzalo Higuain finds himself in now.
Since arriving in Serie A from Real Madrid, Higuain has established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in Italian football.
He helped fire Napoli to second place last season, but after Juventus shelled out a frankly ludicrous £75m for the 28-year-old, the Argentine will now be plying his trade in Turin rather than Naples.
And as is tradition when a big-name player leaves your club for a rival, Napoli fans have begun showing their disgust in the only way they know how – by taking it out on their replica jerseys.
There was the classic shirt burning…
Followed by some more creative ways to dispose of a shirt you spent £80 on…
But don’t forget the flags…
And then came the toilet humour…
It’s going to be an interesting homecoming when Napoli host Juventus on April 2 of next year…
