Napoli’s president has aimed another very weird dig at Liverpool

Wayne Farry

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is an interesting man

Aside from being the head honcho at Napoli, he is also a film producer and general rabble rouser. That’s not to say that he’s a trouble maker or anything but he does like to run his mouth a little bit, and when he’s got an idea in his head it’s pretty hard to get it out.

A couple of months ago De Laurentiis called for Liverpool to be kicked out of the Champions League because, he claimed, the Premier League club and AS Roma have the same ownership.

“Roma? They changed a lot and I don’t know if that’s good. I wouldn’t have sold Alisson, not even for €100 million. I had offered €60 million for him but Roma didn’t want to sell him to me,” he said to Corriere dello Sport.

“I have the doubt that Roma and Liverpool have the same owner. I was told by somebody a few years ago and if it was true they would not be allowed to play the Champions League.”

Now it seems like he’s back at it again, this time taking a swipe at the club while speaking about former Napoli and current PSG striker Edinson Cavani’s future during an interview with Le Parisien.

“Can you imagine waking up every day in Liverpool? You only have the house of the Beatles, Abbey Road,” he said.

“In Paris, there’s loads of things to see, but the climate isn’t great like in Naples.

“You’d have to be crazy not to be happy in Naples. At home, I have the best view of Rome, but I’d always swap it for that of Naples, just like my house in Los Angeles. These kids (the players) have to wake up, train and they’re done for the day. We pay them to have fun.

“They also have the freedom of living in an idyllic situation.”

So what next for De Laurentiis? Who knows. But it will no doubt involve Liverpool and be a silly insult.
