Nemanja Vidic has not had as many sleepless nights spent thinking about Fernando Torres as you might imagine.
The Manchester United legend was famously torn asunder by Torres during the Spaniard’s time with Liverpool and it’s become a bit of a running joke about the recently retired centre-half.

But Vidic maintains that Torres was not the striker he most dreaded when he took to the pitch as, in an interview with FourFourTwo, the former Red Devils skipper revealed his toughest opponent.
“People say: ‘You had a difficult game against Torres’, but it was just the one game,” Vidic said. “I went to head the ball but changed my mind and tried to pass to Edwin [van der Sar]. I misjudged the distance and Torres scored.
“[Didier] Drogba was tougher. Torres always created a chance to score, but Drogba was on you for the full game. Drogba was physically the hardest; [Luis] Suarez and [Sergio] Aguero were the best.”
Vidic is actually pretty complimentary about the man who once slapped him across the face. Perhaps we can put it down to a grudging respect between two of the Premier League’s best players of the last decade.
And anyway, perhaps the whole Torres/Vidic thing was blown a bit out of proportion.
