We have a new contender for the best goal of all time

In doing what Pele could not, this player has provided the world of football with a new contender for the best goal of all time

Pelé could never

Last weekend, we told you that Matheus Cunha of RB Leipzig had scored the best goal of all time and that we could stop football. But things can change in an instant in the world of football. Occasionally, something we’ve never seen before will stop us in our tracks and makes us reevaluate everything we have learned, like: to score a goal you have to kick the ball into the net.

Sometimes, you can simply send the goalkeeper the wrong way with a well sold dummy and allow the ball to roll into the net without touching it, just as this player did, pulling off that Pelé tried and failed to do.

It is unclear who this team is or where they play. If you know, get in touch. But just sit back and feast your eyes on this grainy footage of possibly the best goal of all time.

Would you ever have the cojones to attempt that? Just leave the ball and trust that the keeper will follow you instead of the ball? I would never have had the courage to try such a thing before seeing this goal, but I know exactly what I’m doing in my next 11-a-side match.

Before we go, a round of applause is in order for the goalscorer, who actually played a through ball, but what a pass it was. Perfectly timed, it beat the offside trap with ease, and was quite rightly left by the striker to roll into the net.

As I mentioned earlier, Pelé tried pulling off this type of goal against Uruguay once, allowing the ball to run past the goalkeeper and rounding him on the other side. Didn’t work, though, did it?
