They might be two divisions apart but there is no love lost between Sunderland and Newcastle
Newcastle United’s official Twitter account posted a “congratulations” message to former player and now Charlton manager Lee Bowyer after his side defeated Sunderland in the League One Playoff final.
The account wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to former Magpies midfielder Lee Bowyer on steering @CAFCofficial to the @SkyBetChamp! ??”
At the time of writing, the tweet has been liked more than 15,000 times.

Sure, there’s no actual mention of Sunderland in the tweet itself, but you can’t help but think they wouldn’t have been posting it unless the team he had gone up against was their local rivals.
One fan responded: “Give the social media manager a raise”, while another replied: “Sensational Tweet… near as good as that Shearer Goal against Everton”.
Bowyer played 79 league games for Newcastle, slotting home six goals during his time at St James’ Park, having begun his career at Charlton before moving on to be a key part of the Leeds United squad that reached the Champions League final in 2001.
