Following Newcastle’s eighth successive defeat in the Premier League, the club have announced they will be sticking with under-fire caretaker manager John Carver.
Carver appeared to be edging close to the exit door on Saturday when he suggested that defender Mike Williamson deliberately picked up a red card in the 3-0 defeat at Leicester, but he has somehow held on to his position.
‘Following the result at Leicester City on Saturday, there has been two days of frank dialogue with John Carver and senior players,’ said a statement on Newcastle’s official website.
‘The outcome of those discussions is that the board, John Carver, his staff and players are absolutely focused on our current situation and the three hugely-important fixtures that remain this season, two of which are at St. James’ Park.
‘All parties accept responsibility for the current situation but are determined, together, to ensure this Club –Â your Club –Â retains its Premier League status.’
Newcastle haven’t picked up any points since a 1-0 win over Aston Villa on February 28 and stand just two points above the drop zone with three games remaining.
