Neymar has yet to respond to the reports

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has been on the receiving end of criticism in his native Brazil after reportedly organising a five-day party in a mansion close to Rio de Janeiro.

Brazilian outlet O Globo (via the Daily Mail) claim Neymar rented a mansion in Mangaratiba on Rio’s Green Coast for the event and, concerned neighbours might hear the noise, forked out for sound-proofing in parts of the property. He is also said to have banned those in attendance from bringing mobile phones.

The reports claims the party, which began on Christmas Day, has been attended by around 500 people. This, given the fact Brazil’s coronavirus death toll has recently surpassed 190,000, has been seen as insensitive by some and drawn criticism.

The 28-year-old owns a house of his own close by the venue in which the party was allegedly being held, but renovation work forced him to relocate to the rented property. Conflicting reports from outside of Brazil claimed the party was taking place in an underground bunker, which he has used for parties before, but these are thought to be inaccurate.

Neymar has yet to respond to the reports and the last post on his Instagram grid was a picture of himself with his parents, sister and son.

Neymar is currently recuperating from an injury he picked up at the start of the month. It was initially feared he had broken his ankle after being stretchered off during a Ligue 1 match with Lyon. Although PSG have been encouraged by a first scan on the injured ankle, he was immediately ruled out for the remainder of 2020, with his return date still unclear.

Neymar will hope to make a return in good time for PSG’s Champions League last 16 meeting with his former club, Barcelona. The first leg is set to take place in the Camp Nou on February 16.
