Of all the summer transfer rumours involving Manchester United, a potential world record move for Barcelona star Neymar was among the most preposterous.
The Brazilian was reported to have held secret talks with the club over the summer, although United fans weren’t prepared to get their hopes up at the time.
But even though no deal was agreed, the 23-year-old has now confirmed that “conversations” did take place.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Neymar said: “We had conversations, but nothing materialised.”
Since the close of the transfer window, he has scored in all three of Barcelona’s league games, including an impressive free-kick in the win over Atletico Madrid.
But given the impressive start enjoyed by new signing Anthony Martial, perhaps United fans won’t be too distraught just yet.
