Nothing to see here, just a man acrobatically smashing a shot against a crossbar then volleying the rebound into the top corner
That’s that then. The next Puskas Award is done. No need to announce a list of nominees and go to the trouble of any voting process. Nothing – nothing – is beating this.
Lyngby Boldklub defender Nicolai Geertsen had ventured forward for a corner with his side already six goals up in their Danish cup tie against Slagelse.
As the cross came in, he made contact with via an overhead kick, smashing the ball against the crossbar. With no time to pick himself up off the ground, he was able to improvise as the ball rebounded to him, steering a volley into the net as he attempted to clamber back to an upright position.
Here. Look at the state of this, shared by the scorer himself:

A frankly ridiculous goal, we’re sure you’ll agree.
Very few of us can claim to have acrobatically instigated a one-two with the crossbar before belting the rebound into the goal immediately afterwards.
While there have already been calls for Geertsen to be given the Puskas Award already, he will have to wait a while to find out if he has made the list.
And as we know all too well from our interview with Eric Bicfalvi last year, sometimes, the best goals are overlooked.
