Sometimes the simple jokes are the best.
No guff, no fluff. A bit of physical comedy works is all you need for a bit of a chuckle.
Which is why we’ve been giggling at this bit of non-league football for a few days now.
Ramsbottom United co-manager Paul Fildes recorded this special moment between his side and Glossop North End.
The Evo-Stik Northern Division 1 North tie was going swimmingly; everyone was having a good time, and it looks like a freekick was about to be taken.
So of course everyone was getting into position, including a fast retreating referee.
Cue comedy.

That, dear readers, is a perfectly weighted prank, played to perfection.
Our favourite bit is how the referee slows down juussst before he makes contact with the kneeling player – he really has no idea what’s going on.
Then, plop.
Digging a little deeper, and it appears our prankster was a happy chappy from Glossop North End by the name of Ben Richardson. A defender for the non-league club, Richardson wanted to have a bit of revenge after a few dodgy refereeing decisions.
best part of the day – referee had an absolute nightmare, so I pretended to tie my lace when he was running backwards towards me 👋🏻 #taxi 🚕

Very naughty, very funny.
We’re just glad the referee had a sense of humour and laughed it off, rather than card the cheeky fella.
