Neville has made little secret of how he feels about the Glazer family’s ownership of United in recent weeks
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his Manchester United coaching staff are said to be unhappy at the role played by Gary Neville in the recent anti-Glazer backlash at the club.
United’s American owners have been widely despised amongst the club’s fanbase since taking charge in 2005, with the Glazers’ involvement in the doomed European Super League proposals sparking a fresh wave of protests.
Sunday afternoon saw thousands gather at Old Trafford for a predominantly peaceful protest about the Glazers’ ownership. Some supporters, however, broke into the stadium and went on to the pitch, while others congregated outside United’s team hotel in the city centre – ultimately leading to the postponement of the game against Liverpool.
While Solskjaer and his coaching team were firmly against the Super League plans, the Daily Mail claim the Norwegian is “upset” over the game being postponed and believes Neville needs to tone down his rhetoric to avoid fuelling more unrest.
The former United captain, who played alongside Solskjaer as United won the Treble in 1999, has openly criticised those behind the Super League, referring to the Glazers as “scavengers” on Sky Sports last month.

“I’ve stayed pretty quiet in terms of the Glazer family over the years,” Neville said. “I’ve stayed pretty quiet because I thought when the club were taken over as a PLC you knew it could be bought and it was out of the control of fans and players and everybody.
“I believe in a free market, generally in life, and I’ve often thought what’s the answer to the Glazers? What takes them out? Russia? China? State money?
“I’ve stayed quiet on the basis that it’s still Manchester United. I can still go and watch the lads play, I can be happy and I can be sad. I’m still watching football in this country.
“If they take dividends out, I can live with it slightly, but what I can’t live with is attacking every football fan in this country.
“They have stepped over the mark. They are scavengers and they need booting out of this football club and need booting out of this country.
“We have got to come together now… We have got to stop this, it is absolutely critical that we do.”
