Police confirmed that a 25-year-old man had been arrested
Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has been arrested and interviewed over a video which appeared to show him stamping on a fan after the Blades’ Championship play-off semi-final against Nottingham Forest.
As reported by the Telegraph, police confirmed that a 25-year-old man – which Telegraph Sport report is McBurnie – had been held on suspicion of assault on Thursday before being released on bail.
Police began an investigation after a clip was shared on social media which appeared to show the Scotland international stamping on a fan on the ground during a pitch invasion at the City Ground.

Nottinghamshire Police release statement
Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement: “Police investigating a disturbance at the end of a football match have arrested and interviewed a suspect.
“Officers have been reviewing the contents of a social media video showing an incident at the end of Tuesday’s play off semi-final match between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United at the City Ground.
“A 25-year-old man presented himself to police this afternoon (Thursday) and was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has since been released on police bail.”
Detective Inspector Nicholas Hall added: “We are working hard to understand the sequence of events depicted in this video and have now interviewed a suspect.
“As our investigation continues we would like to speak [to] any other witnesses who have not yet come forward.”
Scotland striker previously denied stamping on fan
Despite being accused of stamping on the fan, McBurnie has denied doing so and instead insinuated that he was trying to step over him on the ground.
A tweet was posted on Twitter which read: “Wish that @oli_mcburnie video was in full context – looks more like he was trying to step over him with one bad leg! Could be wrong!”

McBurnie replied to the post with a ‘100’ emoji, indicating he agrees with that version of events.
