No doubt he’ll not be too bothered
Olivier Giroud is a World Cup winner after France’s 4-2 victory over Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
Didier Deschamps’ side performed impressively in the final against a good Croatian side, who dominated the first half but still found themselves 2-1 down at half-time.
France sealed the game through second half goals from Paul Pogba and the extraordinarily talented Kylian Mbappe, before a Hugo Lloris mistake briefly threatened to allow Croatia back into the game.
In the end, France were champions, sealing their second World Cup trophy and their first in 20 years, when they won it home soil.
The final whistle also saw Olivier Giroud take home not only a winning medal, but also the accolade of being a striker who has played nine hours of World Cup football and failing to register a single shot on target.
This is not a criticism of Giroud, he has enjoyed an impressive tournament and has worked tirelessly throughout, creating space and opportunities for his teammates.
Above all, there’s just something terribly funny about a striker winning the World Cup without a shot on target. Bravo, Olivier.
