Patrice Evra responds to growing Manchester United transfer rumours

There's been growing speculation.

At first glance, it appeared to be one of the least convincing transfer rumours of this window so far.

But there’s growing speculation that Patrice Evra could be about to make a spectacular return to Old Trafford. The left back has had a silverware-laden couple of years with Juventus since leaving Man United in 2014 and helped lead France to the final of Euro 2016 with a series of impressive performances.

You can also understand if Jose Mourinho is looking to reinforce the left side of his defence in this window. Luke Shaw has struggled with injuries and the right-footed Matteo Darmian hasn’t convinced when he’s filled in. Although Daley Blind has acquitted himself well when he’s played in the position, his talents may be needed elsewhere on the field.

Could there be space for the 35-year-old veteran in Jose’s plans?

Rio Ferdinand set the speculation hares running yesteraday with this Instagram post asking Evra if he was ‘coming home’?

Then late yesterday the France international finally issued this response on his Instagram.

Now it doesn’t exactly clear things up. But it’s worth noting Evra has not denied the link.

And it’s not like Jose hasn’t already done well with his recruitment of another 35-year-old veteran this season.

It’s all become very intriguing.
