Paul Pogba dragged down the tunnel after mocking West Ham fans

“Shut your f**king mouth”

Paul Pogba had to be dragged down the tunnel by Michael Carrick after he taunted West Ham fans following Manchester United’s comeback win at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Frenchman was walking off the pitch when he began to receive a flood of verbal abuse from a section of Hammers fans who were trying to wind up the midfielder.

Following United’s dramatic win – which saw Jesse Lingard score in the 89th minute on his return to the London Stadium and Mark Noble come on to miss a penalty in added time – one West Ham fan can be heard telling Pogba to ‘shut your f**king mouth’ before someone else shouts ‘f*** you.’

Prior to this, the Red Devils’ record signing had already reacted to some other abuse as he headed for the tunnel by stopping to gesture the set of fans who were taunting him, before continuing to exit the field.

Pogba’s response was comical and showed that he was handling the situation well, opening his mouth wide in response to the taunts suggesting he should ‘shut his mouth’.

After a short period of back-and-fourth between United’s No.6 and the section of Hammers fans involved, Red Devils Assistant Manager Carrick said ‘let’s go Paul’ before dragging him down the tunnel and into United’s changing room.

Home supporters were frustrated that David Moyes’ side had blown the chance to steal a point after club captain Noble was brought on to take an injury-time penalty, before firing his effort straight at David De Gea.

In contrast, the feeling amongst Man Utd fans was understandably positive – especially after another impressive performance from Pogba.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but has started this campaign in excellent fashion, grabbing seven assists in United’s first six games.

Speaking on this, the French star was keen to stress that personal records are ‘not important’ for him.

“This is not important. What is important is the consistency of the team and what we have been doing at the start of the season and we just have to keep this up,” said Pogba, speaking to Sky Sports before the game on Sunday.

“Assists come just like this and I think the most important thing is the team performance. That is what helps me to get those assists.”
