Paul Pogba admits he risks fine if he opens up about Man United situation

Paul Pogba has rejected the chance to end speculation that he is unsettled at Manchester United

Pogba helped United to a 2-1 win over Leicester City in their season opener at Old Trafford on Friday night, scoring a penalty after two minutes.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Barcelona had made a cash-plus-players offer for the midfielder. Although United are said to have rejected the Spanish champions’ approach, further reports suggested the French international was keen to make the move to the Nou Camp.

Reports linking him with a transfer away from United follow claims that Pogba was unhappy with Jose Mourinho’s assessment of his performances during the World Cup. Mourinho had suggested the 25-year-old’s form had improved in Russia because he was free from other distractions and able to focus entirely on his football while at the tournament.

Speaking to reporters after the Leicester game, Pogba was asked if he felt “comfortable” at the club.

“There are things I can say, and there are things that I cannot say otherwise I will get fined,” Pogba responded.

“When people trust you and have confidence then you are good in your own head and it’s going to be easier,” he later added.

Shortly after the game, Pogba posted on social media: ‘I’ll always give my best to the fans and my teammates no matter what’s going on.’

Although it appears Pogba’s relationship with his manager remains strained, it still seems highly unlikely that United will consider selling the player.

The transfer window closed to English clubs on Thursday, but they are still allowed to sell players to clubs from other countries until the end of the month. However, even if Barcelona significantly increase their offer for the former Juventus star in the coming days, his commercial value to United and the fact they would not be able to bring in a replacement means any such bid would be rejected.

Pogba, who captained United on Friday, is expected to start their next game which comes at Brighton next weekend.
