“We are still Manchester United and we won’t give up on anything”
Paul Pogba has revealed his shock at Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening.
The World Cup-winning midfielder played from start to finish in the game at Old Trafford but was powerless to prevent United slipping to their second successive defeat.
Pogba struggled to find an explanation for the result, pointing out that United were on top for the first 45 minutes without managing to find an opening goal.
“Even we don’t understand what happened,” he’s quoted as saying in The Daily Mail. “We started the game really well, we conceded two goals in the second half.
“It’s bizarre. We were determined, we started well, and in the end we lost 3-0. It’s a shock,’ he added.
“We have to keep going, we mustn’t worry. We must work.
“We are still Manchester United and we won’t give up on anything.”
The loss to Spurs came eight days after United were beaten 3-2 at Brighton, a performance which was widely criticised. Although United appeared markedly improved in the first half on Monday, their failure to convert any of the chances they created came back to haunt them in the second half.
From Spurs’ first corner of the game, Harry Kane nodded the visitors in front. This was swiftly followed by a second from Lucas Moura. With United trying to find a way back into the game, any faint hopes of a fightback were killed off when Moura broke away to score his second of the game to complete the scoring.
United return to action on Sunday when they travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley, one of seven teams currently below them at this early stage of the Premier League season.
