Pogba’s current contract runs until 2022, and it appears no extension has been agreed
Mino Raiola, the agent of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, appears to have confirmed that the Frenchman will not sign a contract extension at Old Trafford in an interview with Italian media.
Speaking to Tuttosport, Raiola said: “I can say now that it’s over for Paul Pogba at Manchester United.”
His comments come on the eve of a crucial match for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side against Red Bull Leipzig in the Champions League, ahead of which Pogba has called on his teammates to retain focus and be “bad losers”.
Earlier this year, Manchester United exercised the one-year option in Pogba’s contract. This automatically extended his contract by a further 12 months, until summer 2022.
Pogba has spoken at length over the years of his desire to play for Real Madrid. As recently as October, he reiterated to media that it remains his dream to play for the LaLiga giants.
Despite this, United are said to have retained hope that Pogba would sign a new deal, believed to be an improvement upon his current £270,000-per-week deal.
Raiola’s comments, however, suggest that is now extremely unlikely.
Since rejoining United in the summer of 2016, Pogba has played close to 120 league games for the club. He scored his first goal of the season over the weekend; a stunning equaliser in United’s 3-1 comeback victory over West Ham United.
