We’ve never seen him happier, bless him!
Gary may be the more established pundit of the two Neville brothers, but younger brother Phil Neville is also making a name for himself in the television game with an increasing number of appearances on our screens during the big matches.
The former Manchester United and Everton utility man doesn’t quite share Neville the Elder’s more studied, analytical approach to football analysis, but is perhaps the more chipper and exuberant of the two. Plus he has a more colourful tan.
During Manchester United’s ill-fated visit to Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final, Phil was at hand to give his expert assessment of where it all went wrong for the Red Devils. Ever the club man, he was ready to defend Jose Mourinho’s charges to the hilt.
But that didn’t mean he couldn’t have some fun with it. Describing United’s relative control of proceedings before Ander Herrera was sent off, Neville came out with the decidedly rude-sounding line: “United had every hole filled…”
Although it was his reaction immediately afterwards that really made it. Whether it was a case of being chuffed to bits for having fulfilled a cheeky wager and slipping in a pre-planned gag, or him suddenly realising what he’d said, he could not have been happier with himself!
Phil's proud of himself with that one… 😂 #MUFC pic.twitter.com/nyYbOWlCmn
