An official announcement is expected imminently
Pierre-Emerick is set to put pen to paper on a new three-year contract with Arsenal that will enable him to become the best paid player at the club.
After months of speculation, the striker is ready to commit his final years at the top of the game to the Gunners, with Mikel Arteta’s management a big factor in persuading him to stay, according to The Athletic.
Arsenal fans will be thrilled by the news of his imminent renewal given his integral importance to the success of the team. In 44 appearances last season, the Gabon international scored 29 goals, often playing from the left wing. Following Granit Xhaka’s fallout with the fans early this year, Aubameyang also wears the captain’s armband now, leading by example on the pitch and taking young players under his wing.
Gunners fans will also be encouraged to hear that Aubameyang rejected offers from both Spain and Italy to stay with Arsenal, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
It’s not immediately clear which clubs approached the player, but given his high wages and his prestige in the game, one would expect them to be Barcelona, Juventus or possibly Inter Milan.
Arsenal have not yet confirmed the contract news, but an official announcement is expected imminently.
They have, however, unveiled their new third kit for the 2020/21 season, and it’s a thing of beauty. Various shades of blue with pink text and trim, it’s a winning combination that is sure to be seen all over the streets of north London.
The video to announce it wasn’t half bad either, emphasising the idea of the ‘Arsenal family’. I say idea, because it should not be forgotten that they made 55 members of that family redundant not so long ago.
Anyway this is the video.
