Decisions, decisions…
Friday was the day that the summer transfer market truly sparked into life, as Arsene Wenger made the shock move to trigger Jamie Vardy’s release clause. Leicester City are determined to thwart any move but they would be largely powerless if the England man chose to implement the terms of his contract.
Modern football and the internet being as it is, the battle for Vardy’s mind and soul was played out on social media, as two giants of Twitter, representing Leicester and Arsenal (and perhaps good and evil), went head-to-head to try and convince the 29-year-old to stay/go.
Infamous Gooner Piers Morgan and silver Fox Gary Lineker both @’d Vardy in a desperate attempt to swing him round to their way of thinking. As ever, Morgan was the first to open his metaphorical mouth and fire the first salvo…
Come on @vardy7 – let's do this. #afc

His suggestion that Vardy ‘do this’ with an Arsenal hashtag was closely followed by a swift counter-tweet by MOTD favourite Lineker, who pointed to the fact that the North London club were always the bridesmaids, compared to the all-conquering Blues…
Stay with the Champions @vardy7 don't join the perennial also-rans. https://t.co/Yssd7IiuOS

When Morgan suggested that Lineker’s response was one of desperation, there was an answer for that too…
panicking, Jugs?
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 3, 2016
No, Jugs. It's normal for players reaching their 30's to step down a level.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) June 3, 2016
That’s when it got personal…
you never reached Vardy's level…
— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 3, 2016
thankfully neither of us plummeted to your level.
