Manchester United secured their first win in this season’s Champions League, overcoming Wolfsburg 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Here are the home side’s player ratings.
David de Gea – 6
Relatively quiet night for the Spaniard, despite second half pressure from the visitors.
Antonio Valencia – 4
Not a right back, never will be. Put in a shift in the first half but positional sense woeful at times.
Chris Smalling – 8
Scored winner, but generally composed and solid at the back. More evidence of the huge steps he’s taken under Louis van Gaal.
Daley Blind – 6
Not a terrible performance by any means but still not convincing many that he’s a long term solution for central defence.
Matteo Darmian – 7
Appears to be stronger at right-back than at left-back, but a good defensive performance from the Italian.
Memphis Depay – 6
Pace worried Wolfsburg in the first-half but gave the ball away too frequently.
Morgan Schneiderlin – 5
Booked and lucky not to receive a second late on. Not a great performance from the former Southampton man.
Bastian Schweinsteiger – 6
Steady but underwhelming. Seemed visibly frustrated at his own performance at times.
Wayne Rooney – 5
Failed to have an impact on the game. Nowhere near his brilliant best at the moment.
Juan Mata – 8
Showed his intelligence and used the ball well. Crucial flick for Smalling’s winner.
Anthony Martial – 7
Quieter in the second half, but pace in the first half worried the Germans.
Substitutes
Ashley Young – 6
Replaced Valencia in the second half. Out of position, played well considering.
Phil Jones – 7
Physical presence helped United weather a late Wolfsburg storm. Some valuable interceptions.
Andreas Pereira – 6
Difficult for the youngster to have an impact on the game when he came on. A taste of Champions League football.
