It is something that a string of England managers have begged and pleaded and sometimes demanded for years – a winter break.
The Premier League is one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world and yet it is one of the few major domestic calendars without a mid-season hiatus.
While Christmas and New Years Day football is a joyous English football tradition, it often means that come May, most of the country’s biggest stars are sapped of energy and unable to perform to their optimum levels – which is of hurts the national side when a big tournament comes along.

But, that could all be about to change as the Premier League’s Executive Chairman Richard Scudemore has admitted that talks are underway to introduce a winter interlude.
The Premier League boss told Sky Sports that Big Sam is a big fan of implementing a winter break, and that he is currently in talks with the Football Association and the Football League about making it happen – although any agreement would need to be “roadtested” with supporters’ groups and clubs.
Scudemore stressed there was a “willingness to make it happen”, but warned “If it was easy, it would have been done already.”
