Arsenal had been in pole position to sign Aouar, with the imminent arrival of playmaker Lucas Paqueta from AC Milan an encouraging sign for the Gunners as the Brazilian seemed set to replace Aouar.
But reports in France now claim PSG President Al Khelaifi has held talks with Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas to discuss the possible sale of Aouar.
If it came down to a bidding war, PSG would blow Arsenal out of the water, obviously. Aulas has previously described Arsenal’s offers for Aouar as “timid”, demanding more than €40m for the Frenchman.
With Lucas Torreira expected to join Atletico Madrid on loan and Thomas Partey unlikely to come the other way in return, Arsenal could be very light in central midfield this season.
