Rangnick has a good relationship with Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge
Ralf Rangnick has held talk with Erling Haaland’s father about the possibility of a move to Manchester United, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Norwegian striker nearly joined United before signing for Borussia Dortmund, where he has gone on to become one of the world’s best attackers, having scored a spectacular 76 goals in just 74 games.
Haaland’s release clause – which is thought to be €75million (£63.8m) – becomes active at the end of the season and it is looking increasingly likely he will leave the Bundesliga.
He has attracted interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs, with the Red Devils one of many sides desperate to secure the frontman’s signature.
United interim boss Rangnick has retained a good relationship with Erling’s father, Alf-Inge, following the striker’s time at RB Salzburg.
The German played a part in Haaland securing his move to Dortmund and is now hoping that their relationship could benefit United in the race to sign him.
According to the MEN, Rangnick has been in touch with Haaland’s dad about possibility of his son signing for United next year.

Considering the intense competition for his signature, it is claimed that United’s only chance of landing the superstar would be to finish in the top four and therefore secure Champions League football for the following campaign.
Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, has recently admitted that his client does not have a pre-agreement with any club, with all options – including remaining at Dortmund – still on the table.
He told NOS:Â “Could Haaland wait for Barcelona? He can wait for anybody.
“We don’t have a pre-agreement with any club.
“We’ll look for the best option for him and I can’t rule out another year at Dortmund. Theoretically, that’s still possible.”
United have a number of players out of contract at the end of the season, including Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata.
They are also set to lose Anthony Martial after the striker made it clear he wants to leave Old Trafford, with his agent Phillipe Lamboley suggesting his departure could come as soon as January.
