‘Absolute grasses’
A Rangers fan has been sacked from his job after he told his employers he was still in Seville following the Europa League final, before TV cameras put him front and centre during the Scottish Cup Final.
Rangers lost the Europa League final on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday May 18. After the heartbreaking loss, ‘Gers fan Thomas Meikle told his bosses he was still in Spain for the following weekend, when his team faced Hearts in the cup final.
With the cup final being played at Hampden Park, and 50,000 fans in attendance, Thomas fairly assumed he would be in no danger of being stitched up by the cameras.
However, luck was not on his side as he was seen by everyone watching at home, cheering on Giovanni Van Bronkhorst’s boys as they secured their only silverware of the season.
On June 11, he tweeted to confirm the gutting news that he had been let go at work as a result of his truancy.
“Can’t believe my contracts (sic) getting terminated because I told my work I was still in Seville so I could go to the Scottish cup final… then I got put on the tele, busted,” he wrote, before tagging BBC Scotland and calling them ‘absolute grasses’.

Let’s hope Thomas can find some more work ahead of next season, when Rangers will look to build on their promising start to life under Van Bronkhorst, who took over from Steven Gerrard mid-season.
