James shared an image of the damage to his Instagram
Reece James has revealed how gifts intended for charity were stolen from his car as he attended an event at which he served food to hungry children.
Thieves smashed the window of the Chelsea and England defender’s vehicle on Wednesday before making off with the presents. James shared an image of the damage on his Instagram page shortly after returning to his car.
The 21-year-old had been attending an event run by the Felix Project – a London-based charity fighting hunger and food waste – and is attempting to raise £100,000 to provide over half a million meals.
‘Another rewarding experience with the Felix Project today serving meals to the younger generation,’ his Instagram posts read. ‘Hopefully we spread some joy ahead of a challenging Christmas period.
‘Unfortunately I was met with huge disappointment when returning to my car. During the event, someone felt the need to break in and steal gifts that I was due to donate later in the day.’
James has been devoting spare time to The Felix Project in recent weeks, donating £10,000 of his own money to the initiative as well as encouraging others to help provide meals for children.
“No child should go to bed hungry,” he said during a similar event last month. “No one should be worrying where the next meal comes from. It breaks my heart. We all need to come together to create positive change.”
