A disappointing night all round for England
Reece James was shown a red card seconds after England lost their UEFA Nations League game with Denmark on Wednesday night.
Denmark won the game thanks to a Christian Eriksen penalty in the first half, with Harry Maguire also sent off Gareth Southgate’s side before half-time for receiving two yellow cards.
Though there were few complaints about the nature of Maguire’s dismissal, a string of bizarre decisions by Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano clearly frustrated England’s players as the game progressed.
After Jordan Henderson was booked for dissent shortly before full-time, James was shown a red card after a brief exchange with when the game had ended.
Speaking after the game, Southgate confirmed the Chelsea defender had been shown the red for dissent, though exactly what was said is unclear.

James’ red capped a disappointing evening for England, who failed to follow up Sunday’s victory over Belgium with another three points.
