Report: Man City to put Liverpool to the test with new £40m Sterling bid

Tom Victor

The bidding war for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling rumbles on, with Manchester City poised to return with a second offer around the £40m mark, according to Sky Sports News.

Amy Lewis, a reporter for the broadcaster, claims the figure would represent City’s “last offer” for the player.

Sterling, who is also wanted by the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, played 90 minutes for England in their Euro 2016 qualifying win over Slovenia.

The 20-year-old has been tipped to leave Liverpool in search of Champions League football, following a contract dispute with the Anfield club.

It has been widely reported the youngster feels “let down” by his club and has asked for a move away just weeks after winning Liverpool’s Young Player of the Year award.

Whether this sparks a new bid from United, who are thought to have offered £25m for the player, remains to be seen.

However Liverpool may hope to resolve the saga and turn their attentions to the new season, which will begin with a trip to Stoke on the weekend of August 8.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will feel they have unfinished business at the Britannia Stadium, where they ended the 2014/15 campaign with a 6-1 defeat.
