The French-born Algerian international may be back in preseason training with the Foxes but it looks unlikely that he will be with the club in 2016/17 as they defend their league crown and compete in the Champions League.

It will come as another blow to Leicester fans who are still digesting the news of N’Golo Kante’s impending move to Chelsea.

The Guardian is reporting that Mahrez has made up his mind to leave the champions, while The Telegraph says West Brom have bid £9m for full-back Jeffrey Schlupp. Claudio Ranieri must be wishing the King Power Stadium had a drawbridge he could yank up.

France Football has broken the news that Mahrez has rejected an improved contract offer from Leicester. Despite being told the PFA Player of the Year is content at the club, by Ranieri, The Guardian are now confident enough in their sources to run a lead story on his exit.

Mahrez was signed from Le Havre for £375,000 and has been as resounding success at the club.

In May, Kamel Bengougam, Mahrez’ agent, commented, “They will be playing in the Champions League so he would be happy to stay. But at his age, if the opportunity comes to play for a big team, then we would have to think about it. I’d say it’s 50/50 at the moment whether he stays or goes.”
