Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea after miserable start to the season

Tom Victor

Jose Mourinho’s second Chelsea spell has come to a sudden end after the club decided to part ways with the Portuguese boss following a miserable start to the season.

The BBC report that Mourinho has been dismissed after nine defeats in the club’s first 16 Premier League matches, which leaves them just one point above the relegation zone and 14 points away from the top four.

Mourinho only signed a new four-year deal in August, and his dismissal is likely to prove very expensive for Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

A number of names have been linked with the job on a temporary basis, including former Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos.

Chelsea have issued a statement on their official site, thanking him for his work.

‘The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea,’ it says.

‘His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge.’
